2.10pm Hexham – carpetgallop.co.uk Handicap Chase
Hexham’s best race is this Class 3 handicap chase over 2m4f 15y on Good ground, worth £10,562 to the winner. Six go to post and there are no course-and-distance winners in the field.
- Top weight: Scarface (Joe Tizzard) is rated 135 and carries 12st, 5lb above The Other Mozzie and Ruby Island (both 130). He was pulled up on his return 23 days ago (form P531-P) but is 3 from 8 in Class 3 races. Tizzard is 7 from 25 (28%) in the last 14 days.
- In-form jockey: Sean Og (Dianne Sayer) was second at Carlisle over 3m 15 days ago and is 2lb higher. Sean Quinlan rides and is 4 from 13 (31%) in the last 14 days. Sean Og is bottom-rated on 114 and carries 10st 7lb.

Betting Forecast
7/2 Scarface, 14/1 The Other Mozzie, 15/8 Ruby Island, 5/1 Hombre De Guerra, 7/1 Busty Boy, 7/2 Sean Og
Verdict
It’s possible to argue a case for Scarface returned to the class of his best strike-rate, and for Sean Og (next best) who proved his effectiveness around a galloping track last time like never before. Preference nevertheless remains for RUBY ISLAND, another back down in class and not yet handicapped out of further gains judged on her peak RPR last time out.[Jeremy Grayson]

Verdict
With the step back up in distance looking likely to suit, BEARISH may build on a rallying Southwell effort and add to his turf wins. Stoneacre Donny (second choice) and Sovereign View are solid-looking dangers, while a few others among the 3yos may do better still and Twisting Physics looks the pick of the older runners.[Steve Boow]

Verdict
A rescheduled Haldon Gold Cup, which is normally run at Exeter. There’s an air of inevitability regarding MIRABAD (nap), a second-season chaser who returns to the scene of his Grade 1 Maghull success. Rubaud, who ties in with the selection on reappearance running, is second choice ahead of JPR One who has another crack at a prize he landed in 2024.[Steve Boow]

Verdict
A very competitive renewal. Both Suzie Songs and Leading Dancer make plenty of appeal but wide draws make it tough for both. DANCING SAXON, however, has an okay draw and on the back of a fine turf campaign is taken to stay this longer trip on her return to the surface. Others to consider include Carolina Jetstream, Prevalence and last year’s winner Aviatrice. [Alan Hewison]
