2000 Guineas tips, odds, racecard & trends 2026: 28/1 outsider can stun in open Classic return

The 2000 Guineas represents the beginning of Classic season on the flat. 15 colts go to post in what looks a great renewal for punters to try and solve.

GG tipster Joe Napier attempts to do just that. In an open running, he sides with a 28/1 shot to cause a shock.

15 go to post, with Bow Echo a longstanding favourite here. George Boughey’s charge is unbeaten, but perhaps finds himself as favourite by default. His form is solid, he has raced and won professionally, but 1m was his minimum appreciated at two. He will have to cope with some speedy, mile-bred rivals in a bigger field than he has faced here too.

Gstaad is the high-profile celebrity in the line-up. His Breeders’ Cup win was no less than he deserved after being consistent throughout 2024. Five years ago he would be a warm order for this, but Aidan O’Brien’s record in this recently is poor, particularly with well-hyped types. It’s notable that he was keen to get runs into Albert Einstein when he appeared to be Ballydoyle’s number one. Gstaad has not seen a raceourse in 2026.

Godolphin are chasing a 2000 Guineas hat-trick. Distant Storm is the main nominee for William Buick after his Dewhurst third (behind Gstaad). He looks solid and is well-regarded, often receiving market support. That is similar to last year’s hero Ruling Court while King’s Trail follows Notable Speech’s path of winning on the all-weather and making his turf debut here. This remains a big step up in class for him though.

Alparslan and Oxagon won the notable British-based trials. The former has stamina to prove, but won well from the front. That is definitely a positive for Newmarket. Conversely, the Craven Stakes rather fell apart even before the off. Oxagon won well, but has a little more to prove, as does runner-up Avicenna, another Godolphin entrant for Roger Varian.

In Ireland, Thesecretadversary won very convincingly in the Group 3 Red Rocks Stakes. He saw out 7f very well that day at Leopardstown, with Group 1 winner Power Blue only second. The Amo Racing runner has a 3lb swing at the weights, but Fozzy Stack’s charge looks a strong, galloping type who could really roll over the Rowley Mile.

The unexposed Needle Match was fourth to Alparslan and may also have something extra in his locker. Meanwhile, the supplemented Padraig Dawn stands out of those at massive prices. He has only raced on all-weather surfaces so far, but should probably have won the Listed Burradon Stakes.

2026 2000 Guineas Tips

This is as open a renewal as you could want for the opening Classic of the season. Bow Echo has always looked a tenuous favourite, while Aidan O’Brien’s record in recent years is a bit of a worry regarding Gstaad. The Breeders’ Cup winner is third choice though a shock looks on the cards. Alparslan is one of those who could be capable from the front. However, Thesecretadversary had the option of the Irish 2000 Guineas but was declared here by Fozzy Stack. That suggests connections are confident in the son of St Mark’s Basilica, who saw out the Group 3 Red Rocks Stakes very likeably over 7f on his return. He looks to have filled out well and may appreciate this 1m trip even more.
