12.50 Southwell – SOLAR PROPHET (1pt win – 13/2 Bet365, 11/2 generally)

The pace held up in the 6f BetUK’s Acca Club £5 Free Bet Apprentice Handicap at Southwell on December 16th in which the first three were described by the Racing Post as ‘made all’, ‘prominent on inner’ and ‘took keen hold, in touch with leaders’. George Boughey’s SOLAR PROPHET, wearing a tongue-tie for the first time on his stable debut, did well to keep on into fourth place after being given a patient ride from the widest draw. He was outpaced over the same course and distance next time, again finishing fourth, and the step up to a mile looks set to bring about improvement.

3.20 Southwell – MINESBIGGERTHANURS (1pt win – 14/1 generally)

Progeny of the sire Brazen Beau are profitable to back blind on Tapeta and MINESBIGGERTHANURS recorded his career-best RPR (Racing Post Ratings) when a close-up third at Wolverhampton in January, hirs first try on the surface. He struggled to stay 7f here at Southwell on his next Tapeta outing and was a big eyecatcher back at Wolverhampton on his latest start – his first since gelded – where he finished a front-running 40-1 fourth of ten in a race set up for the closers. He clocked a good time for that latest effort and his in-form trainer has a good strike-rate on the Flat with runners having their second start after being gelded.
