Andrew Mount’s Best Bets – Sunday, 17th December

Top tipster Andrew Mount gives one tip for Sunday’s racing, where he’s hoping the application of headgear can have a similar effect over fences as it did over hurdles.

12.15 Thurles – MACIVER (0.5pt E/W – 25/1 generally)

MACIVER is 0-5 over fences but only two of those runs have come in handicap company  – he could never get involved after being hampered early on by a faller over an inadequate 2m2f at Thurles in the first of them and last time, at Tramore, he raced on the inside rail where the ground was badly churned up, doing well to finish a 10-1 fifth in the re-applied cheekpieces. Blinkers go on for the first time today and his sole success over hurdles came in first-time headgear, suggesting that he’s worth a speculative bet at a huge price in what looks a weak contest.
