3.35 Doncaster – DANDY ALYS (0.5pt E/W – 40/1 generally)
It was a huge effort by Ralph Beckett’s DANDY ALYS to run second from off the pace in a 7f Listed race at Carlisle on her penultimate start, where she was just half a length behind the always-prominent Vetiver (re-opposes today). Fourth-placed Glenlaurel, second best of those ridden patiently, boosted the form with a solid 22-1 fourth in the Group 3 Whispering Oak Stakes at Goodwood. Dandy Alys was only third at Galway next time but the two who beat her were up with the pace throughout and got first run on her. Ralph Beckett’s three-year-old, who will appreciate the slow conditions and return to a straight track, steps up to Group 3 level but looks overpriced in a race that should be run to suit.
5.20 Doncaster – THORNABY PEARL (1pt win – 5/1 generally)
THORNABY PEARL likes to get his tow in and the Adrain Nicholls-trained five-year-old ran with credit on unsuitably quick ground at Carlisle last time, finishing just under two lengths back in fourth place. The stiff uphill finish wouldn’t have been ideal either, as his five career wins have all come on easier tracks. He’s had to goes at today’s venue with cut in the ground previously, winning over 6f and running second by a length and a half to Teruntum Star in this race 12 months ago.
