WOLVERHAMPTON 2.39
TONE THE BARONE – 1.5pts win (10/3 generally)

TONE THE BARONE has won 11 of his 19 all-weather starts when racing at the minimum trip in fields of nine or fewer runners and backing him blind under these conditions would have returned a profit of £26.18 to a £1 level stake at SP. He finished a creditable 20-1 fifth when we bet him each-way in a Class 2 conditions contest at Newcastle 16 days ago and his small-field 5f record at today’s venue reads 211 (2-3), with the defeat by three-quarters of a length to Lord Riddiford when failing to settle.

WOLVERHAMPTON 3.09
BRAZEN IDOL – 1pt win (15/2 888, 7/1 Generally)

Simon Pearce sent out four winners (12-1, 15-2, 7-2 and 5-2) on the all-weather last week, though Brazen Idol was out of luck in division two of the 6f Class 5 handicap at Southwell on Tuesday where he finished five lengths back in fifth. He got no cover from his wide draw -racing freely as a result – and could never strike a blow from off the pace in a steadily-run contest. He also wasn’t helped by weaving all over the track as they approached the furlong pole, His sire, Brazen Beau, gets plenty of winners on Tapeta and his two previous visits to Wolverhampton resulted in a win and a narrow second after rearing in the stalls. Stall 10 is less of a worry than the possible lack of a strong gallop, hence the small stake.
