2022 P+L SUMMARY:

Total profit at advised prices: +£306.70

Total profit at SP: -£30.19

12.15 Fairyhouse – PHILS CHOICE (0.5pt E/W –  33-1 Bet365, 30-1 Betfair + Paddy Power, 28-1 generally)

PHILS CHOICE never left the deep ground on the inside rail in division two of the Adare Manor Opportunity Maiden Hurdle at Limerick on November 22nd but was four lengths ahead and going well when jinking right and running out at the second last flight. I expect she would have been worn down by a finisher out wide had she stayed in the race, but it was still an eyecatching effort. She’s in a much tougher race but the general 33-1 underestimates her ability and she’s worth a very small each-way bet.

12.30 Tramore – INDULGING (1pt E/W –  25-1 generally)

INDULGING caught the eye when fifth at Limerick on his penultimate start as he raced in the ‘swamp’ on the inside rail. He placed at 33-1 here at Tramore next time, albeit a long way behind the winner, and another ‘swamp dweller’ from that Limerick race, Alpesh Amin, landed a gamble (11-4 from 12-1) earlier this week. Indulging looks a likely improver now going handicapping for the first time and is worth an each-way punt.

1.55 Cheltenham – WAR LORD (1pt E/W –  14-1 generally) + COCONUT SPLASH (1pt E/W – 10/1 generally)

WAR LORD was a big eyecatcher when third to Greaneteen in the Haldon Gold Cup on his reappearance. He looked in need of the race and became detached on ground plenty quick enough for him before staying on again over the 2m1.5f trip. His yard went close to landing the Welsh Grand National earlier this week with The Big Breakaway and he looks sure to relish the return to this longer trip on his first handicap outing since scoring on his chase debut at Newton Abbot in October 2021. Any more rain will help.

COCONUT SPLASH has won just a Wetherby maiden hurdle (when the 4-6 favourite) from ten starts under Rules but has finished second or third his other eight completed starts (he fell at the last flight at Newbury on one occasion when also looking set to finish second or third). The form of his Wetherby comeback third to Into Overdrive has been well advertised by the winner and he’s likely to appreciate the big field/strong pace scenario. If we include his point-to-point form, his record in fields of ten or more runners reads 12F1 (2-4), with the runner-up effort by a nose at 14-1.

2.16 Southwell – LIV LUCKY (1pt E/W –  20-1 generally, Skybet four places)

Since Southwell swapped Fibresand for Tapeta, Roy Bowring is 12 from 46 at the Nottinghamshire venue for a profit of £37.67 to a £1 stake. He also does well at the first time of asking with horses he takes over from other yards and LIV LUCKY, who shaped as though the step up to this mile trip were needed when third at Wolverhampton in mid-October on his final start for Charlie & Mark Johnston, looks worth chancing at a big price.
