3.25 Pontefract – FUNNY STORY (1pt E/W – 10/1 Bet365, 9/1 generally)
FUNNY STORY did best of those to race down the centre of the track from their poor low draws when third in the 6f fillies’ handicap at Glorious Goodwood last time, a run worthy of an upgrade. Her record over 6f now reads 110413 (3-6), improving to 111 (3-3) on fast turf/Polytrack. Pontefract looks to have avoided the rain and, with trainer Ralph Beckett in fantastic form, she looks worth a punt at a big price in this Listed contest.
4.10 Southwell – YEOMAN (1pt win – 9/1 Bet365, 8/1 generally)
YEOMAN was only seventh of 12 at Chelmsford last time but that race wasn’t run to suit his patient style and progeny of his sire Tamayuz are much happier on Tapeta than Polytrack. Backing the sire’s progeny blind at the three British Polytrack venues – Chelmsford, Kempton and Lingfield – would have found only 57 winners from 652 bets (8.7% strike-rate) for a huge loss of £240.99 to a £1 level stake at SP (-37% on turnover). Their strike-rate is closer to 15% on Tapeta and Yeoman is unbeaten on this surface, with both wins at Wolverhampton when tipped in this column. This track should suit and he’s worth a small interest, despite the lack of obvious pace angles.
