2.45 Leopardstown – SALTONSTALL (1pt E/W – 11/1 generally)
SALTONSTALL hasn’t won since landing this race 12 months ago but the Ado McGuinness-trained nine-year-old looked on his way back when fifth at Tipperary last time, making ground towards the inside of the track where the ground was slowest. He usually goes well at this time of year, recording form figures in October/November of 168011102115 (6-12) for a profit of £50.08 to a £1 level stake at SP. The very heavy ground will suit and his come-from-behind style is another bonus given the plethora of early pace in this mile handicap.
3.20 Leopardstown – SUNCHART (1pt E/W – 25/1 Bet365 + Betfred, 22/1 generally)
SUNCHART finds winning difficult, but he makes each-way appeal in this 1m2f Listed contest. Andrew Slattery’s six-year-old drop contested the Irish Cesarewitch over 2m1f last time, finishing a well beaten 80-1 23rd of 30, but has plenty of form at today’s trip, including a Listed race second on heavy ground on this season’s comeback. The trip stretched his stamina at the Curragh last time and he wouldn’t have been suited by the right-handed track either, his record in that direction being 82626257430 (0-11). When racing left-handed on soft or heavy going, below Group 3 level, his record stands at 212224 (1-6). When filtering his speed figures on bottomless going only he comes out clear best of this field and his price (25-1 generally at the time of writing) look generous.
