The Gordon Elliott-trained RIAAN struggles to put two good races together and every time he has recorded a RPR (Racing Post Rating) of 115 or higher he’s gone backwards on his next outing – with his rating dropping by 26, 60, 125 and 18lb. The six-year-old defied a big market drift (6-1 from 100-30) to make a winning chase debut at Wexford in August but was only fourth of five (beaten by 22 lengths) at Listowel the following month. Faster ground would have been preferable, but his sole previous course outing produced a soft-ground win on his handicap hurdle debut and perhaps he can also score here on his handicap chase debut.
