4.05 Wetherby – HIYA MAITE (1pt win – 9/2 Bet365, 7/2 William Hill, 10/3 generally)
HIYA MAITE clocked a good time when an 11-1 third in a soft-ground 6f handicap at Thirsk on his return to turf and won’t be inconvenienced by the return to a shorter trip. Wetherby’s sprint course is widely regarded as being Chester-esque and favouring low draws but that’s not the case. Stalls 1 and 2 have a combined record of just two winners from 56 runners over 5f-6f since the start of the 2016 season and backing them blind would have resulted in a loss of £45.13 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 7.91). Sprint winners often challenge wide and Hiya Maite’s draw in stall 8 of 10 looks ideal.
6.45 Musselburgh – DUN NA SEAD (1.5pt E/W – 6/1 generally)
Kieran Cotter’s DUN NA SEAD took them along at a good clip in the 5f handicap at Cork on April 8th and the 7-2 favourite set the race up for the closers. She did well to hold on for second place behind Real Force, especially as the ground – officially soft (heavy in places), was slower than she prefers. She’s perfectly drawn to attack in stall 16 of 16 today and can be supported each-way.
