COUNTERACT – 1pt win (7/1 888, 13/2 GENERALLY)
COUNTERACT has proved best in the spring, scoring on good ground at Wincanton in March 2021 and on a similar surface at Plumpton the following month. Both wins came over 2m4f but today’s 2m7.5f trip didn’t seem to be an issue when he finished a four-length 16-1 third over course and distance on unsuitably soft ground in December. He failed to score last year but didn’t reappear until April 17th when pulled up at Plumpton, a run that would have been needed after 325 days off the track. The 91-day break is off some concern – we might be getting there a race too early – so I’ve downgraded my intended bet from 2pts to just 1pt.

DOUKAROV – 1pt win (9/1 GENERALLY)

DOUKAROV recorded form figures of 7PP on his first three runs for new trainer Amy Murphy this season but showed plenty more at Warwick last time where a ten-length sixth at 80-1, doing third best of those to come from off the pace on a track that rarely favours such tactics. Two of his four wins from previous handler Sean Curran came in the first week of March and everything looks right for a big run.
