2.00 Southwell – RAINBOW DREAMER (2pt win – 5/1 Paddy Power/Betfair, 9/2 generally)
RAINBOW DREAMER has a fine record in small fields on the all-weather, recording form figures in single-digit line-ups of 1111132142171 (8-13) for a profit of £31.95 to a £1 level stake at SP. He’s yet to race here on the Tapeta but there’s no reason why it won’t suit, and this hold-up performer should get a good tow into the race from Earlofthecotswolds and Kingswear.

Tue 03 Jan 20232.20 Naas – KALANISI STAR (1pt E/W – 66/1 Will Hill, 50/1 generally)
Siding with horses who ran in Grade 1 or Grade 2 company last time out has found six of the eight winners since the Lawlor’s Of Naas was elevated to Grade 1 status in 2015. Backing all 19 qualifiers would have returned a profit of £23.27 and though that’s all thanks to one big-priced winner, plenty of others have made the frame. Irish Point (probably best right-handed) and Champ Kiely (tends to pull hard in small fields) are two of the three qualifiers but make limited appeal at odds of 9-2 and 6-1 respectively. More interesting at a huge price is KALANISI STAR, who won a point-to-point, bumper and maiden hurdle before a disappointing last-of-five effort when 15-8 favourite for a 2m7f Grade 2 novice at Limerick over Christmas. That race was not run to suit his patient style (the other hold-up horse, Jungle Prose, finished a neck in front of him in fourth) and he was taking a big step up in trip from two miles. He’s back down to 2m4f today and is worth chancing.
3.40 Chepstow – PEPE LE MOKO (1pt E/W – 11/2 Bet365, 4/1 generally)
The Jane Williams-trained PEPE LE MOKO has been crying out for the step up beyond two miles and today’s extended 2m3f trip on deep ground should be just the ticket. He’s run with credit in all four starts and was again outpaced before plugging on well when fourth at Lingfield last time.
