4.50 Ayr – REDARNA (1pt win – 15/2 generally)

REDARNA has a solid record on his second run of the season, landing a 7f Ayr handicap at the second time of asking in 2018 and causing a 28-1 shock at Hamilton in 2020. He took me by surprise when scoring on his reappearance last term – taking the Thirsk Hunt Cup at 66-1 – and, with hindsight, he’s probably just an individual who comes to hand early, winning on one of his first three outings in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2022.

He also tends to go well at this time of year, landing six of his 18 starts in July/August for a profit of £55.00 to a £1 level stake at SP. When he’s had only one run in the past three months, his summer record becomes 111 (3-3), with the wins at 28-1, 20-1 and 13-2. Three of his last four wins have come here at Ayr (on ground ranging from good to firm to good to soft) and he’ll improve for his reappearance effort at Royal Ascot when last of the five to race far side in the Buckingham Palace Stakes. I’ve saved on outsider of the field Alpine Sierra in case he’s gifted an easy lead.
