2.10 Catterick – VALLAMOREY (1pt win – 14/1 generally)

It’s difficult to find solid bets today – I’ve plenty of tracker horses but three of the jumpers are having their third run for a handicap mark and might but might not figure until next time, while two of the all-weather ones are potentially badly berthed. A couple more have collapsed in the overnight betting and don’t look value at current odds. The remaining one that I’m going to recommend to small stakes is VALLAMOREY in the opener at Catterick. Those of you with better memories than mine may recall that we bet him on the Flat a couple of times last season when trained by Chris Fairhurst, including when successful at 22-1 on soft ground at Doncaster on his reappearance last April. He failed to reproduce that effort in three subsequent starts but has joined in-form Sam England ahead of a jumps campaign. He’s been off the track for 157 days but is proven fresh, will like the ground and this race doesn’t look very deep. I’ve saved on PURPLE GOWN.
