1.30 Chester – LOOK OUT LOUIS (2pt win – 5/1 generally) + LOOK OUT LOUIS/NYMPHADORA (0.5pt Tote Exacta or straight forecast)

Julie Camacho’s LOOK OUT LOUIS (stall 7 of 8) has form figures in Chester handicaps of 111 (3-3), including victory in this race 12 months ago. He’s not as well drawn this time around (assuming the inside is the place to be) but I still think he’s going to take all the beating. The seven-year-old dislikes York – his four runs there have produced form figures of 5700 (0-4) and a combined margin of defeat of more than 40 lengths (that’s come going for a sprinter) – and he’s best judged on his record in handicaps on turf for his current yard, away from the Knavesmire, of 1312322111 (5-10). Backing him blind under these conditions would have returned a profit of £41.50 to a £1 level stake at SP.

I also want to play LOOK OUT LOUIS in a forecast to beat NYMPHADORA into second place. Andrew Balding’s filly has only scored once from 11 starts but ran second to Live In The Dream (now rated 17lb higher) on her only previous course visit and it’s safe to ignore her reappearance 11th of 16 at Bath as she raced prominently in a Listed contest run to suit the closers.

2.05 Chester – LORD UHTRED (1.5pt win – 7/1 generally)

I’m keen to oppose Surely Not here as he may have been flattered by last month’s Newmarket win in a headwind-affected race. He won comfortably but the first five finishers came coming from the rear and the fifth, Richard Hannon’s Supreme King, was unplaced when 13-8 favourite for a Doncaster maiden next time. The interesting one is LORD UHTRED, despite his wide draw in stall 7 of 9 (once adjusted for the non-runner). The Siyouni colt was still green when scoring at Kempton on his third juvenile outing and his reappearance fifth of eight at Newbury was far better than it looked as, he raced in the stands’ side quartet when it was a big advantage to race centre to far side.
