1.55 Worcester – GLIMPSE OF GALA (2pts win – 7/4 bet365, 13/8 William Hill)

GLIMPSE OF GALA ran a cracker from the front in the 3m Grade 3 handicap hurdle at the Aintree festival when we last saw her, faring best of the prominent racers in a 40-1 sixth of 22. Charlie Longdson’s mare won off a lowly mark in a field of 14 runners at Warwick in December 2021 but her four other wins have come in fields of seven or fewer runners. She makes her chase debut against just six rivals, looks the sole pace angle and the forecast rain will increase her chances.

4.35 Exeter – GETTHEPOT (1.5pts win – 8/1 bet365, Paddy Power, Betfair, 15/2 generally)

GETTHEPOT jumped well at the head of affairs when scoring by 14 lengths at right-handed Huntingdon in October last year and was sent off as the 10-11 favourite for a three-runner novices’ handicap chase at left-handed Fakenham later the same month on the strength of that effort. However, it was soon evident that he was going to struggle to follow up despite being allowed to poach a few lengths at the start. He jumped slightly out to his right at the second fence, markedly out to his right at the third and the trait got even worse throughout the race. Getthepot had no answer to Dan’s Chosen who jumped well on the favourite’s inside and, after looking set for a very modest second, he refused at the final fence. Bizarrely, his five runs since that Fakenham outing have all taken place on left-handed tracks, including a pulled up at Worcester last month. He won left-handed over hurdles but his record this way round over the larger obstacles reads 3FR5P (0-5), compared to right-handed figures of 1221 (2-4). The eight-year-old runs right-handed over fences for the first time since that Huntingdon romp 12 months ago and is 5lb lower this afternoon.

5.40 Ayr – CLANSMAN (2pts win – 10/3 William Hill, 3/1 generally)

CLANSMAN did us a good turn when scoring over 1m7f here last week (4-1 from 6-1) and is proving very hard to beat when the mud is flying. Liam Bailey’s five-year-old has form figures on officially soft or heavy going of 131141 (4-6), improving to 1111 (4-4) in April or October only.
