1.40 Newcastle – WAR SOLDIER (1pt win – 3/1 generally)
Sandy Thomson’s WAR SOLDIER won his bumper here on his rules debut in December 2021 and also came to hand early last term, going down by just two lengths in fourth at Wetherby on his seasonal/hurdles debut before winning here in late November and following up at Haydock. His form tailed off in the second half of last season but form figures in November/December of 111 (3-3) suggest that he’s worth chance on his reappearance.
2.20 Naas – IVANE (1pt E/W – 6/1 Bet365, 11/2 generally)
It was a huge advantage to race wide at Tramore’s meeting on November 28th and IVANE deserves extra credit for his front-running sixth of 16 in a 2m5f handicap hurdle. The cut back to 2m will suit and he doesn’t look to face much competition for the lead if pacesetting is again the plan.
