I thought DON ALVARO should be closer to 4-6 rather than odds against after his impressive course and distance win earlier this month. He came home 15 lengths clear in a time that compared favourably to the other chases on the card and it’s likely that a right-handed track is the key, as his record this way round now reads 32311 (2-5), compared to 025504 (0-6) when racing left-handed.
3.15 Wincanton – No No Tonic (0.5pt E/W – 14/1 generally)
NO NO TONIC tries hard from the front and arrives here on the back of a solid placed effort at Chepstow. She received her second highest RPR (Racing Post Racing) for that effort and the return to Wincanton will suit. Her record here stands at 62521 (1-5), with the sixth and fifth in big fields (14 and 17 ran) and the runner-up efforts by just half a length and a short head. She won’t mind if conditions ease, looks like she might be in receipt of a relatively easy lead, and I can see her going off closer to 8-1.
