Thursday’s cards are pretty uninspiring, but it could be worth having a small interest on HAPPY NEWS in this amateur jockeys’ handicap chase. The nine-year-old mare has been off the track since late March but has won at the first time of asking in each of the last two seasons. Both wins came at Ludlow for another yard, but right-handed Wincanton should suit, and Gina Andrews is a good booking.

ALAFDHAL was only fifth in a 7f handicap at Kempton last time, but he helped to force a very strong gallop and the race was set up for the finishers, with the 20-1 winner, 40-1 third and 40-1 fourth coming from off the pace. sixth-placed Vitesse Du So fared third best of those to race up with the early pace and he was only just beaten when 14-1 at Wolverhampton next time. Alafdhal was half a length in front of that rival, is well drawn and will appreciate the cut back to 6f having won over course and distance on his penultimate start.
