2.25 Southwell – WALKING ON CLOUDS (2pts win – 11/4 Paddy Power/Betfair, 5/2 generally)
WALKING ON CLOUDS has a fine record on the all-weather since joining Grant Tuer – form figures of 251121121 (5-9), improving to 111121 (5-6) over 5f-6f only. The sole defeat came by a head (when I made him a bet at Wolverhampton on his penultimate start) and he’s better berthed than main market rival Shalaa Asker. He won with plenty in hand over 5f here last time and can defy a 6lb ratings hike.
4.10 Southwell – MURBIH (1pt e/w – 11/2 generally)
MURBIH has a very consistent record on Southwell’s Tapeta surface, recording form figures of 3031223 (1-7), with the sole unplaced effort excusable as he completely blew the start and was beaten by 110 lengths. Both of his career wins (the other on Wolverhampton’s Tapeta) came over 5f but he seems to stay the extra furlong well enough, keeping on well into third in a Class 3 course and distance contest on his latest outing. He drops back to Class 4 level today and could be hard to kick out of the frame.
