THE NU FORM WAY’s three wins have all come under patient rides, so it was surprising and frustrating to see him race prominently in an apprentice handicap at Pontefract earlier this month where he still managed a respectable 11-1 fifth of ten. That run, his first since November, was probably needed and the return to more patient tactics could see him back to winning ways. I’m hoping/expecting that Freak Out and Bit Of A Quirke will go hell for leather from the outset to get across from their wide draws towards the inside rail and that The Nu Form Way can track that pair before being switched out to the middle of the track – often the place to be on slow ground at Beverley – to challenge.

Chris Wall retired at the end of last season and his ex-inmates have done well at the first time of asking for their new handlers this year, winning three of their six starts for a profit of £9.50 to a £1 level stake at SP. The James Fanshawe yard landed a punt with Chips And Rice at Lingfield the other day and SPIT SPOT can follow suit. Well drawn in stall 2 for her stable debut tonight, the daughter of Sir Percy clocked a fast time (according to Proform’s speed figures) when a 33-1 runner-up over course and distance last November on her final start for Wall. Her only other course outing, also overt this 1m6f trip, saw her record a 14-1 win under a 7lb claimer and there could be plenty more to come.
