2.10 Sandown – SERA DAWN (2pt win – 9/2 Bet365, 7/2 generally)
Jack Channon’s SERA DAWN has had a good season, going down by just half a length to our pick Umming N’Ahing when 10-1 for a Nottingham maiden on her reappearance before wins at Nottingham (soft) and Catterick (good to soft). Her two subsequent defeats can be excused – she lost a shoe when fourth of six to Umming N’Ahing at Goodwood in early May before doing second best of the hold-up horse when fourth at Haydock, a run that might have been needed after seven weeks off the track. Mey Blossom, who fared best of those ridden patiently in that Haydock contest, has won since at 7-1, and Sandown’s stiff 5f off what should be a strong gallop looks ideal for Sera Dawn.
4.20 Sandown – CROESO CYMRAEG (1pt win – 5/1 generally)
Sandown is forecast to receive up to 10mm of rainfall on Wednesday night into Thursday morning and on a track where the actual going is usually much slower than the official verdict (currently good, good to firm in places) I’m expecting conditions to be slow enough for CROESO CYMRAEG in this 1m2f handicap. The James Evans-trained veteran returned to winning ways on soft ground at Salisbury 12 days ago, taking his record right-handed in June/July to 11215141 (5-8) for a profit of £29.75, including a 10-1 success on his sole early summer visit to Sandown. If the rain doesn’t arrive I shall also back PROPHET’S DREAM.
8.30 Yarmouth – ANDALEEP (1pt win – 9/1 generally)
ANDALEEP thrives at this time of year and his York success 13 days ago took his record in July/August to six wins from 19 starts for a profit of £26.71. He’s won five from seven in this period when arriving at the races on the back of a win or runner-up effort and he looks set for another big run. Soft ground would be a concern, but he’s likely to be withdrawn if conditions ease from the current good to soft.
