5.17 Clonmel – MADE IN THE WOODS (1pt win – 13/8 Paddy Power/Betfair)
They went too fast for the heavy conditions in the 2m7f Punchestown handicap hurdle won by Folly Master on January 29th, with the first three finishers described by the Racing Post as ‘towards rear’, ‘held up in rear’ and ‘towards rear’. MADE IN THE WOODS was always on the front end under his 7lb conditional jockey and got tired late on, fading into a 20-length fourth of 12. He had 17 lengths to spare over the next prominent racer to finish and should do better in today’s smaller field.
6.00 Chelmsford – DARK SIDE PRINCE (1pt win – 6/1 Bet365)
Jessica Macey’s last two runners have won well backed and I’m hoping that DARK SIDE PRINCE can get the hat-trick up in this 5f handicap. The seven-year-old was only fifth at Southwell last time but that run came in Class 5 contest and he’s landed five of his 11 all-weather starts in tonight’s grade, including a comfortable course win. He’s well drawn in stall 1 and should get a nice tow into the race from Araifjan and Wedgewood.
