3.35 Goodwood – ABOVE THE CURVE (1pt win – 11/1 Bet365 + 888Sport, 10/1 generally)

Blue Rose Cen understandably heads the betting for the Nassau Stales, the French raider having recorded form figures since her debut of 11211111 (7-8), with the defeat by a short neck. However, on yesterday’s evidence it could be a case of first to the near side rail wins and her jockey’s lack of course knowledge is a concern. The best has to be Ryan Moore’s mount ABOVE THE CURVE. She fared best of those to race prominently when third in the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh last time and will handle the very soft going.

3.55 Galway – DANDY ALYS (1pt win – 7/2 generally)

It’s been very difficult to win from off the pace at Carlisle this season and DANDY ALYS deserves extra credit for her 15-2 half-length second to Vetiver in a Listed fillies’ contest on June 28th. Glenlaurel, who fared second best of the closers in fourth place, ran a solid race at Goodwood yesterday to give the form a timely boost. Ralph Beckett’s is only three from 36 with his runners in Ireland this century but 18 finished in the first three and she’s worth a small bet with Colin Keane booked.

6.05 Newcastle – PATONTHEBACK (1pt E/W – 11/1 generally)

PATONTHEBACK went close over 6f at Newcastle on his reappearance in April, finishing second by a neck at 16-1, and hasn’t had much luck with the draw on turf in his four subsequent outings. He fared third best of the disadvantaged centre group when sixth at Thirsk (6f) before his solid 16-1 third over 7.5f at Beverley, did best of those drawn very low in a 6f handicap at the freaky high-draw-favoured Pontefract meeting on July 3rd and was then stuck out wide when only tenth of 13 over the same course and distance. He returns to Newcastle of a 2lb lower mark than for his reappearance and won’t be inconvenienced by the step back up to 7f.
