2.05 – Doncaster – KNIGHT OF ALLEN (2pt win – 8/11 Paddy Power/Betfair)
KNIGHT OF ALLEN‘s intended runs at Bangor and Doncaster fell victim to the weather and, in between, he had zero luck at Cheltenham when debuting at Grade 2 level, getting carried out by a faller at the first flight. Jane Williams’ highly regarded three-year-old was backed from 14-1 into 9-2 when lining up in a Listed juvenile hurdle at Aintree in early December where he kept on well into second place to land the each-way money behind Paul Nicholls’ Liari, an easy winner in the same grade at Musselburgh last weekend. He drops to Class 4 level and a win here should ensure that he gets in the Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle at next month’s Cheltenham Festival.
2.15 Huntingdon – MASTER MALCOLM (1pt ew – 7/1 Paddy Power/Betfair)
MASTER MALCOLM has pulled up in both starts this term, but he’ll be fitter now and the return to Huntingdon could spark a revival. He came good at around this time last year, finishing a four-length runner-up to Concetto in this very race before scoring twice over course and distance on soft ground. Emma-Jane Bishop’s seven-year-old has form figures at this venue of 3211 (2-4) and his four career successes – the other two came at Fontwell – all took place between late January and the end of March.
