JUKEBOX DEDDY was sent off at 40-1 for a maiden hurdle at Wetherby last month and Tom Gretton’s four-year-old outran his odds to finish an eyecatching fifth. Held up towards the rear of midfield, he travelled kindly on the inside rail – rarely the place to be on soft ground at Wetherby – and wasn’t put under much pressure by Lee Edwards when briefly looking threatening in the straight. He finished 19 lengths behind the winner but left the impression that he could have been much closer and looks worth a bet on his handicap hurdle debut.

RATOUTE YUTTY is something of a left-field selection, as she was pulled up at Fakenham last week and is out of the handicap here. However, that Fakenham run, for which she started as a very weak-in-the-market 22-1 chance, would have been needed after a 244-day absence. Last season, she returned from a 297-day layoff to finished tenth of 13 at Huntingdon in mid-January before running a blinder at Fakenham just three days later, finishing a 50-1 two-and-a-half-length second to Midnight Mary, who is now rated 14lb higher. She went on to score twice over 3m1f on good ground at Huntingdon – conditions she returns to this afternoon – and Caroline Fryer’s veteran could go well at a big price. Those two course and distance wins came after breaks of just three and 13 days and a very recent outing looks to be the key to her.
