3.00 Newbury – GALOP DE CHASSE (1pt win – 8/1 Bet365 & William Hill, 15/2 generally)
This 2m4f handicap chase has been a good race for young horses (aged seven or younger) who were returning from a break of at least 150 days. There were no qualifiers among the four runners last year, but this angle has found the winner in five of the other six runnings of the race, with the blank year in 2020 when sole qualifier Nestor Park was second at 33-1. This year’s three qualifiers are Our Jet, GALOP DE CHASSE and Family Business, with preference for Venetia William’s seven-year-old. His two previous seasonal debut efforts for his current yard have produced a win and a second place and he looks ready for another try over this longer trip after signing off last term but with a best-of-the-closers third over 2m at Carlisle.
7.30 Chelmsford – FELIX (1pt E/W – 11/1 generally)
Marco Botti is flying on the all-weather at present, scoring with three of his last four runners (22-1, 9-1 and 11-2), and FELIX might be able to over come an absence since February when he contests this 1m2f handicap. The veteran can usually be relied upon to run his race granted a field of nine or fewer runners and a Class 2 or lower contest, recording form figures under such conditions in Britian of 31841116114 (6-11) for a profit of £31.08 to a £1 level stake at SP. He has plenty of form when fresh and makes each-way appeal in tonight’s eight-runner line-up.
