CONFLATED – (2.50 Cheltenham, 1.5pts win – 13/2)
It’s easy to believe that Allaho is a good thing based on his performance in this race last year but there were no crowds at the festival 12 months ago and the atmosphere will be completely different this time around. He will be suited by going left-handed for the first-time since but his full record in Grade 1 company reads 32364121 (2-8), suggesting that he’s not entirely bombproof, especially after yesterday’s deluge.
I’m going to take him on with CONFLATED, another who seems happiest when racing in this direction. His Irish Gold Cup win took his chase record left-handed to 131U211 (4-7) and he’s improved since switched to prominent tactics. If he can keep tabs on Allaho in the early stages, he might be able to out-stay him up the hill.

THYME HILL – (3.30 Cheltenham, 1pt each-way – 9/2)
THYME HILL, best when fresh, has been rested since finishing second to Champ in the Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot in December. He filled the same position in that race last season, going down by a neck to Paisley Park, and returned to score at Aintree after a break of several months.
He only missed Cheltenham because of a minor setback and he’s run two blinders at the festival before, doing best of the British when a close-up fourth behind Monkfish in the 2020 Albert Bartlett and again doing best of the home team when beaten by just over two lengths into a 20-1 third of 14 in Envoi Allen’s bumper. I’m confident that he’ll see off Champ and Paisley Park this time. His Irish rivals will be tougher nuts to crack but he’s going to be difficult to kick out of the frame.

ADRIMEL – (4.10 Cheltenham, 1pt each-way – 16/1)
Yesterday’s biblical rain at Cheltenham came just in time for ADRIMEL and he’s worth chancing despite the dry forecast this morning. His record left-handed reads 11011PP11 (6-9), improving to 111111 (6-6) below Grade 1 level. Tea Clipper hit the frame for the yard in a handicap chase on Tuesday and their only other runner, Glory And Fortune, ran a cracker to finish fifth at 150-1 in the Champion Hurdle.

FINERY – (5.40 Southwell, 1pt each-way – 7/1)
FINERY should have won at Chelmsford in early February but was given a curious ride by Erika Parkinson (perhaps riding to instructions), who switched to patient tactics. She only went down narrowly in second and Mick Appleby’s mare went one better at the same venue eight days later.
She hasn’t won on Tapeta yet but her last-time-out fourth over course and distance was a huge effort, as she helped to force an unsustainably fast pace, losing out to rivalsd described as ‘lost many lengths start, detached in rear’, ‘towards rear of midfield’ and ‘towards rear’. Jason Watson takes over in the saddle and, Dark Company aside, there’s little in the way of pace here.
