3.15 Exeter – FAVORI DE SIVOLA (2pt win – 5/1 Bet365, 4/1 William Hill, 7/2 generally)
FAVORI DE SIVOLA did this column a good turn when scoring over the extended 3m6f here last month and might be able to follow up. He was badly in need of the run when only fourth of six at Warwick on his reappearance in November – a time when the Jane Williams yard was badly out of sorts – and his record from late November until the end of February now reads 811U1141 (5-8), improving to 11 (2-2) at Exeter only. The cut back in trip is unlikely to inconvenience him and the form of his latest win was franked when the fourth, Some Detail, hacked up by six lengths at Taunton next time. I’ll be saving on DON HERBAGER, fifth to Favori De Sivola last time.
6.00 Southwell – UNIVERSAL FOCUS (1pt win – 16/1 generally)
Adrian Nicholls has a solid recent record at the first time of asking with horses he takes over from other trainers, scoring with six of the 26 qualifiers since June 2020. Backing them blind would have returned a profit of £56.00 to a £1 level stake at SP. Five of the six winners came from Irish trainers and four of them ran at Dundalk last time out. Those four Dundalk horses produced three winners (14-1, 17-2 and 6-4) and a 33-1 shot who finished second by a head. UNIVERSAL FOCUS, mid-division in a 1m4f Dundalk handicap for Ross O’Sullivan last time, comes out joint-top on Proform’s speed figures and looks worth chancing on his first run for Nicholls.
