ARDERA CROSS has a fine record over fences at Ayr from January to March, recording form figures of 31114113P51121 (8-14) with last month’s 14-1 win taking the profit to £46.38 to a £1 level stake at SP. The veteran won this race in 2022 (he didn’t take part in last year’s renewal) and he looks better value than Haydock winner Netywell, who has yet to record back-to-back victories and could even find the forecast soft going too fast.
6.00 Newcastle – FLYLIKEANEAGLE (1pt ew – 33/1 bet365)
It’s incredibly difficult to win from the front over trips of 1m2f or further on Newcastle’s Tapeta surface and 22-1 shot FLYLIKEANEAGLE didn’t have a prayer after going off like a scalded cat under Margot Scudamore in a 1m2f amateur riders’ handicap last time out. His 13-length sixth wasn’t a bad effort in the circumstance, especially as he lost a shoe, and a more patient ride could see him bounce back to form tonight. The Lucinda Russell-trained seven-year-old drops back top 7f tonight and was second by a neck at 40-1 when last running over course and distance. Russell is best known as a trainer of jumpers but, since the start of 2022, she’s 17 from 124 with her Flat handicappers (13.7% strike-rate) for a profit of £36.08 to a £1 level stake at SP.
