INSOLENETE is an eight-race maiden but five of those runs came in sprints for another yard and she doesn’t need to improve a great deal on the figures she has produced in three runs for Alice Haynes on the all-weather this winter to play a leading role on her handicap debut. She was outpaced over 6f in the first of them when a respectable fifth of ten at Kempton before a two-length fourth at Wolverhampton over today’s 7f trip when getting into a battle for the early lead. That form was boosted when runner-up Abbey’s Dream, the other one who disputed the early lead, went one better at Newcastle. Insolente raced keenly under restraint when a 14-1 seventh of ten at Lingfield next time but the cut back to 7f and switch to handicapping should see an improved effort, especially if strong in the market. Her trainer is six from 28 with her handicap debutants and backing them blind would have returned a profit of £73.50 to a £1 level stake at SP.

ROLLY BOWLEY BOY went into my tracker despite only finishing a 21-length sixth of eight on his penultimate start. He made the running in the ‘swamp’ on the inside rail that day and actually did well to finish so close. I bet him each-way at Limerick next time where I thought similar tactics would be advantageous, but he was given a patient ride before staying on into a 16-1 fifth of 17 behind a winner who made all. The step up from 2m3f to 2m4f will help and, while we can only guess the tactics, there should be compensation in the price.
