1.25 Plumpton – Midnight Mary (1pt win -10/1 general)
MIDNIGHT MARY showed a willing attitude on several occasions when trained by Stuart Edmunds and can make a winning debut for Lucy Wadham today. She improved for the fitting of a tongue-tie in the latter stages of the 2020/21 campaign and her full record in headgear stands at 1314113 (4-7). She really impressed me when scoring by a neck at Fakenham in February, as she raced in the ‘swamp’ on the inside rail when it was a big advantage to challenge wide. The cheekpieces go on today and she could be in receipt of an easy lead.

Tue 13 Dec 20223.13 Newcastle – Cloch Nua (1pt win – 11/4 bet365, 5/2 generally)
I had the following to say about CLOCH NUA in the Racing Post Weekender after his runner-up effort at Lingfield on November 12th…
‘Cloch Nua ended a frustrating run of in-the-frame efforts with a 10-1 success at Newcastle last month and he followed up at Wolverhampton 11 days later. Both those Tapeta wins came under patient rides in big fields (14 and 12 ran) and a steady early pace proved to be his undoing in division one of the 1m Spreadex Sports Bet £10 Get £100 Handicap at Lingfield last Saturday. Wholelotafun broke smartly from stall 10 to press the early pace before taking up the running over two out. Cloch Nua on the other hand was always playing catch-up after a slow start – he was only sixth approaching two out before keeping on strongly to finish a neck second, with a four-length gap back to the third. He’ll be suited by a big field/strong pace scenario next time, ideally on Tapeta.’
He got the required big field and strong pace on Tapeta next time – at Wolverhampton on December 3rd – but stall 2 made life tricky for his hold-up style and, after being switched wide for a run, his jockey seemed blind-sided by Dream Harder who sneaked through up the rail, and he had to settle for second place. He was almost three lengths down at the line but still looked full of running. He’s back up to 1m2f for the first time since his fourth at Ripon in August and is worth a small bet despite his stall 1 draw (the inside rail is not usually not the place to be in big-field handicaps on the round course).
5.00 Southwell – Solar Prophet (1pt win – 4/1 bet365, 7/2 generally)
Marwari (1pt win -6/1 generally)
George Boughey hasn’t got the greatest record at the first time of asking with horses he takes over from other trainers and SOLAR PROPHET will come on for his course-and-distance fourth in an apprentice handicap on his stable debut last Friday. The pace held up that day and he did best of those to come from midfield or further back. Kevin Stott takes over, he’s well drawn and, hopefully, he’ll be ridden closer to the early pace this time as, Della Mare aside, there’s not a huge amount of pace on offer.
MARWARI is a 14-race maiden on turf has won four of his 13 all-weather starts, including form figures on Southwell’s Tapeta surface of 1151 (3-4). The fifth place was much better than the four-length margin of defeat suggested, as he was poorly drawn over 5f, a trip too sharp for him. He did best of the closers when fifth from a poor draw to Alafdhal at Chelmsford last time and can go well now returned to his favourite venue.
