3.30 Taunton – AMELIA’S DANCE (1pt win – 5/1 generally) + FINEST VIEW (1pt win – 7/1 generally)

I thought we were going to collect on the win part of our AMELIA’S DANCE bet here last time out, but we had to settle for an each-way return when Robert Walford’s course expert went down by three-quarters of a length in second to a 40-1 all-the-way Victor Dartnall-trained winner. That took her Taunton form figures to 113412 (3-6) and she looks set to encounter the required strong pace today, despite the small field. She’s upped from Class 4 to Class 2 company but that could actually suit her, as they’ll go quicker.

I’ve also backed FINEST VIEW, who is having her second start for Andrew Martin. She had little chance behind Epatante in Grade 2 company at Doncaster on last month’s stable debut and her record below Class 1 level reads 12211114 (5-8).

6.30 Southwell – SAVANNAH SMILES (1pt win – 13/2 888Sport, 6/1 generally)

I want to oppose the first-time blinkered Trojan Legend here, as the Johnston yard has a terrible record when using this particular form of headgear. The one to take her on with is Tom Ward’s SAVANNAH SMILES, who returned from a break to finish a solid 14-1 second over 6f here in late January. She can be forgiven her fifth of 11 at Chelmsford next time, as her patient style was at a disadvantage, and the step up to 7f could suit. Progeny of her sire Unfortunately are five from 13 on the all-weather after a recent run (within four weeks) and backing them blind would have returned a profit of £15.00 to a £1 level stake at SP.
