2.35 Newbury – OFF TO A FLYER (1pt win – 9/1 generally)
OFF TO A FLYER was widely tipped for a 2m5f conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle at Cheltenham in November but Joe Tizzard’s 17-2 chance was badly hampered by a faller two out when still in with a squeak and came home in 11th of the 20 runners, almost 20 lengths behind the winner. The seven-year-old jumped out to his left when turned over at odds of 8-15 at Exeter last February and went on to score over 3m at Ayr in the spring – his first start on a left-handed track outside of his seasonal debut. He had those conditions at Newbury in early December but found the 2m4.5f trip on the short side and was outpaced before staying on into a 10-1 fourth of ten. The son of Shirocco beat only one home in Blow Your Wad’s race at Kempton when making his chase debut on Boxing Day but wouldn’t have appreciated the right-handed track and this point winner is likely to do better now back up in trip at a left-handed venue. 3.55 Leicester – MADE FOR YOU (1pt win – 11/2 generally)
MADE FOR YOU ran a blinder under a patient ride on his reappearance when a 150-1 third in the Bet In Running On BetVictor Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle at Newbury in November. Olly Murphy’s eight-year-old finished 23 lengths behind the prominently-ridden winner but was nine lengths clear of the next finisher to come from off the pace and will be happier now returned to a right-handed track. That Newbury run took his jumps record left-handed to 0-17, compared to form figures in today’s direction of 51111225212 (5-11), with the latest defeat by just three-quarters of a length, and he an bounce back to winning ways today.
