3.00 Epsom – BAD COMPANY (1pt E/W – 11/1 generally, but 10/1 with SkyBet 4 places is preferable)
On very soft going they’re going to come stands’ side in the straight at Epsom today, looking for the better ground, and it could be a case of whoever is first to the outside rail wins. BAD COMPANY failed to settle when beating only a couple home at Doncaster on his comeback but that run would have been needed and he’ll be happier back at his local track, His two runs here last autumn produced a 1m4f heavy-ground win and a narrow second over today’s 1m2f trip on good ground. He often makes the running, though I’ll be happy to see him track habitual front-runner Caius Chorister (prefers fast ground) before sneaking through on the rail.
9.00 Wolverhampton – FRISTEL (1pt win E/W – 6/1 generally)
The pace held up in the 6f handicap won by Autumn Flight at Lingfield on March 31st, with the winner making all to score by a neck from the always-prominent 150-1 shot Sympathise. Mark Loughnane’s FRISTEL, wearing cheekpieces for the first time, was settled towards the rear of midfield by David Probert and still only had a couple of rivals behind him on turning in. He kept on strongly in the home straight to finish a length and three-quarters behind the winner, a solid effort in the circumstances. He bumped into another pace bias when fifth over 6f at Wolverhampton next time, doing second best of the closers, and is worth a punt over the same course and distance tonight in a race that should be run to suit.
