EPEIUS tends to meet traffic trouble in big fields and faces his ideal conditions tonight. He’s twice found trouble in big fields (16 and 15 ran) at Chepstow since his half-length 12-1 second of 11 at Windsor in August, doing well to finish in the top six on each occasion. His six wins for Ben Haslam all came in fields of ten or fewer runners, four of them here at Newcastle, and the fact that Devon-based Joe Tickle sends him all the way to the northeast is a massive clue to his chances. The excellent Taylor Fisher takes off 7lb and, with luck, he’ll encounter the required strong pace thanks to the presence of Babe Alicious and See My Baby Jive. Baileys Bling is another potential pace angle now that she’s fitted with blinkers for the first time.
