4.15 Cork – STATEMENT (1.5pt win – 8/1 generally)
STATEMENT could only finish seventh when 5-1 for the 7.5f Group 3 Coolmore Stud No Nay Never Fairy Bridge Stakes at Tipperary on September 3rd but the ground was faster than ideal and that run, her first for almost five months was possibly needed. Her three wins have come in a narrow band from September 27 to October 23, two of them on soft or heavy going, and she should be at her peak for this 1m Listed contest. She won this race last year.
4.25 Nottingham – NONSUCHLAD (1pt E/W – 14/1 generally)
NONSUCH LAD can take a keen hold in his races and is ideally served by having a strong pace to chase. It might seem odd to recommend a bet in a Class 2 handicap on a horse who as beaten in Class 6 company last time but that fourth place was a solid effort as he saw too much daylight out wide from stall 10 of 10 (first three finishers drawn 1, 3 and 4). He’s only had two handicap outings above Class 5 grade (both in Class 4s) and they saw him win at Sandown and finish third in Epsom and it could he a case of the better the race, the better he runs. In fact, all 12 runners are stepping up in class today and if they go a good gallop he could surprise.
