1.45 Beverley – RWENEARLYTHEREDAD (1pt win – 6/1 generally)

RWENEARLYTHEREDAD could only finish sixth when punted from 9-1 into 100-30 (tipped in this column) at Wetherby on his handicap debut but stumbled soon after the start and met trouble when coming with his run. He was a big eyecatcher in his three runs in maiden/novice company and certainly has the ability to run a race or two. Beverley’s stiff 5f should suit, there’s likely to be plenty of pace on offer in this apprentice handicap and he’s worth another chance.

9.00 Newbury – PAPABELLA (1pt win – 33/1 generally)

Stuart Kittow’s PAPABELLA looked a horse with a future when a 16-1 third of five at Salisbury on her debut last spring. Available at 80-1 with one firm in the early market for that 5f novice contest, she was always prominent towards the inside rail – probably not the place to be – and made steady away in the last half furlong when her chance had gone to finish three lengths behind the odds-on winner. She only raced once more last term, returning to Salisbury 38 days after her debut run to finish a 7-1 fourth of five in another 5f novice contest. That race has worked out well – winner Rocking Ends has won twice more since and is now rated 89, runner-up Silencer ran second in a hot nursery at Glorious Goodwood and is rated 93, third home Sunny Orange was given a mark of 81 for his handicap debut and was placed at 40-1 at Haydock earlier this month, while Lulworth Cove, last of five, is a dual subsequent winner and now rated 85. Papabella returned from a 373-day absence to finish in mid-division when 25-1 at Windsor last month, a run that was no doubt needed, and she’s worth chancing to take a step forward now making her handicap debut off a mark of just 65.
