LINGFIELD 2.20
TEQUILAMOCKINGBIRD – 1pt win (8/1 Paddy Power/Betfair, 15/2 Sky Bet)
TEQUILAMOCKINGBIRD caught the eye when fifth at Southwell on her penultimate start where she did second best of the prominent racers. She was only fifth again at Kempton next time but was caught very wide and James Doyle didn’t persevere once her winning chance had gone, and she looked better than her three-length defeat suggested. The Charlie Fellowes-trained filly now has all-weather form figures of 11255 (2-5), improving to 115 (2-2) on Polytrack only and the drop in trip/return to Lingfield (she’s 1-1 here) will suit.
WOLVERHAMPTON 5.50
YOUNG FIRE – 1pt e/w (33/1 Paddy Power/Betfair, 22/1 Sky Bet)
This looks set to be run at a strong gallop and it could play into the hands of YOUNG FIRE, who wears cheekpieces for the first time. David O’Meara has a good record when using this headgear on the all-weather, scoring with eight of the 35 qualifiers for a profit of £34.42 (prior to Belle Fourche’s run in the 7.25 at Wolverhampton last night). At first glance it looks as though the seven-year-old is best on turf (five wins from 43, as opposed to two from 21 on the all-weather) but he simply needs Tapeta and a turning track. His Wolverhampton record stands at 2148 (1-4). From left to right – 2nd (beaten by half a length), 1st, 4th – did best of the hold-up horses in a race run to suit prominent types and 8th (drawn wide, race not run to suit and found Class 2 company too hot). Those three in-the-frame efforts came in today’s Class 3 grade and he looks set to go well if the new headgear – he’s usually visored – has a positive impact.
