WIND TOR, like many sired by Midnight Legend, tends to come good in the spring. He also seems best after a very recent outing, recording chase figures from March to May, when returning to the track within a fortnight, of 1153 (2-4). The fifth places was easily excused as he didn’t enjoy the fast ground at Warwick and the third place – last-time out at Exeter – saw him finish less than three lengths behind the winner when doing best of those to come from off the pace. Today’s deep ground looks ideal and he’s worth a small bet.

ZOOM STAR has form figures on soft going of 3161 (2-4) and Bryan Smart’s daughter of Mayson has conditions to suit in the in this 5f handicap. Both her soft-ground wins came at left-handed Catterick, but she has plenty of straight-track form – including a close-up third over 6f here on her sole course visit – and her stall 7 of 17 draw could prove helpful, as far side of centre is often the place to be in Thirsk sprints when the mud is flying.
