Front-runners have a good record over fences at Doncaster, with 44 wins from 192 runners (22.9%) since the beginning of the 2016/2017 season for a profit of £96.77 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 31.79, A/E = 1.38). LYRICAL GENIUS looks the obvious pace angle in this 3m2f novices’ handicap chase and Charlie Longsdon’s seven-year-old looks worth a bet, especially if you can get on with the firms paying three places in this seven-runner contest (Coral, Betfred, BetMGM and BetUK). He pulled up on good ground here last March when unable to get an uncontested lead but has placed in his three subsequent outings, all on soft ground. The son of Milan was second by a short head in this race last year when rated 110 and is only 2lb higher this afternoon.
3.50 Leicester – LETTHEDUSTSETTLE (1pt win – 15/2 generally)
In-form Tom Lacey has a good record with his handicap hurdle debutants, scoring with 25 of the 107 qualifiers for a profit of £73.58 to a £1 level stake at SP. Those who prepped at Exeter had form figures of 11U212 (3-6) and perhaps LETTHEDUSTSETTLE, never involved under a patient ride in a maiden hurdle at the Devonshire venue last time, can get off the mark now handicapping for the first time. The 72 Proform speed figure he recorded when a 22-1 sixth of 18 at Wetherby on his rules debut in early November suggests that he doesn’t need to improve in order to be involved in this 0-100 contest.
