This race looks very tight if we judge the runners based on their most recent all-weather speed rating, with Proform having them on 66, 66, 64, 64, 64, 64 and 62. However, three of them like to race up with the pace and it’s likely to be set up for a closer. Starshiba is the obvious one but stall 1 could make life tricky for the early 6-4 favourite as he’ll need to get out of the ‘swamp’ and come round rivals. Of greater interest is MASQOOL, who caught the eye when a best-of-the-closers fourth over 1m2f here on his penultimate start. He’s since run well over 1m at Southwell, finishing third at 8-1, and was second by a neck on a field of 14 at Kempton on his most recent start over today’s 1m trip. He should have the race run to suit and can come with a late run down the centre to pick them up.
