4.10 Catterick – COLD HENRY (2pt win – 5/2 Bet365, 13/8 generally)
Sara Ender’s COLD HENRY ended 2022 on a high, landing a pair of 2m handicaps at Catterick in September/October, having caught the eye over an inadequate 1m4f at Thirsk beforehand. Sent off at 100-30 when returned to Catterick for his reappearance in mid-May, he was settled towards the rear of the seven-runner field in a steadily-run contest and was still well back in sixth place on turning in. He kept on well down the middle of the track to finish a half-length third behind prominently-ridden pair Flint Hill and Quercus Robur, leaving the firm impression that he would have won off a stronger pace. He was just touched off at Southwell next time, a run that took his all-weather score to 0-5, and pulled five lengths clear of the third when finding only Blow Your Horn a length and a half too good at Pontefract last time where the good to firm going was quicker than preferred. Benoit De La Sayette is a good booking, he drops in grade and he’s going to be hard to beat now returned to Catterick.
8.45 Bath – BLUE HERO (1pt E/W – 13/2 Bet365, 6/1 generally)
Course expert BLUE HERO, who has won over as far as 1m3.5f, needed all of the 1m2f trip when scoring here on May 17th. He followed up over 1m here the following month, despite finding the trip very much on the sharp side, and didn’t get away with it over the same course and distance last time, finishing second of four as the 11-8 favourite. His full course record stands at 1134218112 (5-10), with the sole out-of-the-frame effort coming after a break of 106 days, and he looks a good bet now returning to 1m2f in a race likely to be run at a strong gallop. The penalised Galactic Glow will be a tough nut to crack but Blue Hero is more than twice the price of that rival.
