FRANSHAM – 1pt win
(5/1 Bet365, 3/1 generally)
Last week’s Sedgefield winner Sonning heads the betting for this 2m handicap hurdle, but his two previous wins were followed by a defeat – last of six when 6-4 favourite and a 3-1 third – and he’s not sure to back up that effort. I prefer the claims of course expert FRANSHAM, whose record here over hurdles stands at 211511 (4-6), improving to 21111 (4-5) over today’s 2m trip only.

LUNAR JET – 0.5pt e/w
(20/1 generally)
LUNAR JET is a spring/autumn horse, whose wins have come in April/May or from September to November. He’s seven from 33 in those months for a profit of £18.63 to a £1 stake, compared to 0-24 in other months. The eight-year-old won this 1m2f handicap two years ago when trained by Jim Goldie and though yet to score for Michael Mullineaux, he’s run some good races in defeat, including a 125-1 fifth of 23 in last year’s November Handicap at Doncaster. He was unsuited by the small field when a seven-length third of five at Haydock last time and today’s contest looks set to be run at a strong pace. There’s a chance he’ll need this – his first run since early August – but, at the price, he’s worth chancing to small each-way stakes.

NOTTINGHAM 5.15
REIGNING PROFIT – 1pt win
(10/1 Bet365, 6/1 generally)
REIGNING PROFIT hit the front too soon under Taylor Fisher in the 6f apprentice handicap at Newcastle last Friday and was swept aside by the closers in the latter stages, finishing just under three lengths back in fourth. Ruth Carr’s three-year-old is an 11-race maiden but cutting back in trip in first-time cheekpieces could make the difference and his yard is among the winners. He should get a good tow into the race from Shesadabber, drawn nearby, who did best of the pace horses when runner-up at Hamilton last time. That race is already working out well and she could be worth a saver on a rare outing away from Hamilton or Chepstow.
