There are a few statistical angles in support of a bet on newly-gelded UMBERTO in this 1m handicap…
- Progeny of his sire Expert Eye are five from 18 on their first start since gelded for a profit of £12.32 to a £1 level stake at SP. On the all-weather only, that improves to four from five, including a three-from-three haul at Kempton (9/1, 5/1 and 13/8).
- Owners King Power have a good record with newly-gelded runners on the all-weather, scoring with nine of the 25 qualifiers (36%) since the spring of 2016 for a profit of £6.88.
- He’s also fitted with a visor for the first time and trainer Kevin Philippart De Foy is seven from 27 when using first-time headgear on an all-weather handicapper for a profit of £16.63.
Stall 10 (adjusted for the non-runner) isn’t ideal on paper, but they were winning down the middle here on Monday and, with luck, Danny Muscutt won’t get caught very wide around the turns. Umberto has proved expensive to follow since running second by a head over course and distance on his debut but the return to Kempton could help and he’s worth chancing.
