THIN BLUE LINE has won just one of his 25 starts on turf but is three from nine on the all-weather and, having shown improvement on turf since his most recent all-weather outing, he could be worth chancing in this competitive Class 3 handicap. His top seven RPRs (Racing Post Ratings) have come on turf in 2022 and his record on Southwell’s Tapeta surface stands at 3132 (1-4). There are only eight runners, but his stall 6 draw could be advantageous given how well high draws have fared on the straight 5f course since the track was de-compacted.

LADY JANE GREY (stall 9 of 9) settled better than usual when a 28-1 fifth of 11 at Wolverhampton last time, where she did best of those to come from off the pace. She’s well drawn near the pace horses (stalls 7 & 8) and should be able to get a nice tow into the race under P J McDonald, who is having his first ride for the Rae Guest yard.

COUNT D’ORSAY has only had two runs on the all-weather for Tim Easterby and he ran with great credit on each occasion – finishing a two-length seventh of 14 in the 2021 Gosford Park Cup Handicap and a 14-1 sixth of 14 in the same contest this year. He met trouble on each occasion and today’s small field will help, as should is draw near the stands’ rail.
