4.05 Newcastle – TATHMEEN (1pt win – 5/1 bet365)
TATHMEEN has won seven of his 29 starts in January/February for a profit of £33.25 to a £1 level stake at SP, including six from 18 when returned to the track within ten days of his latest outing (+£31.25). Antony Brittain’s veteran was backed from 6-1 into 5-2 favouritism when going down by a neck in second place at Wolverhampton 48 hours ago and can go one better in this 6f classified contest.
7.00 Kempton – INBETWEENUS (1pt win – 8/1 bet365)
INBETWEENUS was a big eyecatcher on her debut at Glorious Goodwood last summer, doing second best of the newcomers when a 20-1 fifth in a 7f fillies’ maiden worth £30,000 to the winner. Ornellaia, who won that race, is now rated 103 after finishing third in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes on her final juvenile outing while runner-up Classical Song, best of the newcomers, won on her next start and was awarded an official rating of 102 after her third in the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket. I made Inbetweenus a bet over the extended mile at Wolverhampton next time, but she blew the start and never got involved. She showed more over 7f at Chelmsford on her third outing, going down by a little over three lengths in a 28-1 fifth of 12 after meeting trouble in running. Gay Kelleway’s three-year-old was unsuited by 1m on in Southwell’s Tapeta when only seventh on her latest start, but she might do better now handicapping back at 7f on Polytrack and fitted with first-time headgear.
