HEREFORD 12.45
SHOMEN UCHI – 1pt win (9/2 Bet365, 4/1 generally)
SHOMEN UCHI ran a huge race to finish second by a neck in a Wincanton bumper on his debut last year, as he challenged in the ‘swamp’ on the inside rail. He bolted up on soft ground at Hereford next time when backed from odds against into 2-5 favouritism and ran with credit in Grade 2 company at Aintree on his final start, finishing a 12-1 sixth of 18 when left with plenty to do on ground that was probably too fast for him. He looks worth chancing on his hurdles debut.
HEREFORD 1.15
NOCTE VOLATUS – 2pts win (11/2 bet365, 9/2 generally)
NOCTE VOLATUS has plenty of letters next to his name – his record since fitted with a tongue-tie reads F1R1F12U (3-8) – but he’s very very good over fences when his jumping holds up. Soft ground on a right-handed track is ideal and he was set to score by a wide margin on his reappearance at Market Rasen last term before falling at the last fence.
WOLVERHAMPTON 8.30
LEBSAYER – 1pt win (9/1 bet365, 8/1 generally)
Jane Chapple-Hyam has a solid record at the first time of asking with horses she takes over from other trainers, scoring with 20 of the 148 qualifiers since 2010 for a profit of £71.75 to a £1 level stake at SP. In handicaps only she’s 19 from 112 for a profit of £97.75. LEBSAYER, ex-Sir Michael Stoute, failed to win for his old yard but he showed plenty of promise on occasions and shouldn’t have any problem with the Tapeta surface on his all-weather debut.
