There’s masses of early pace in this year’s Carlisle Bell Handicap and after a long look at those likely to benefit from a patient ride I’ve cone down on the side of Grant Tuer’s AWARD DANCER, who has drifted back out after initial support. Stall 12 could be useful on recent evidence and the lightly-raced five-year-old, not seen out yet this season, has a great record when fresh. He blanked in four starts in Ireland for Joseph O’Brien but won on his stable debut at Newcastle in October 2021 on his return from a break of 198 days and followed up at Musselburgh 245 days later on his 2022 reappearance (almost a year ago to the day). His full record over today’s 1m trip for his current yard stands at 112319 (3-6).

BALTIC VOYAGE – 1.5pt win (11/2 generally)
BALTIC VOYAGE failed to score from four starts in his 2yo campaign but showed plenty of ability, most notably when an 80-1 fourth of 17 in the Convivial Maiden at York on his second outing. He signed off last year with a respectable fourth to Godolphin’s Castle Way (now rated 106) in a 1m2f Class 2 nursery at Newmarket where he raced keenly and failed to handle the track, becoming unbalanced in the dip. The son of Frankel was only eighth of 11 at York on last month’s comeback/first start since gelded but that run would have been needed. Ralph Beckett does well with three-year-old handicappers on their second start since gelded, scoring with 22 of the 90 qualifiers for a profit of £69.36 to a £1 level stake at SP and Baltic Voyage can get off the mark in a race his yard has won before.
